Emergency Dentistry

It’s never a bad idea to find emergency dental care if you’re concerned about a severe oral injury or condition for yourself or a member of your family. Common dental emergency situations include:

• Dislodged tooth (Knocked-out teeth)

• A loose permanent tooth
• Severe tooth or mouth pain
• Bleeding inside your mouth from your gums, cheeks, or tongue
• An injury to your mouth or face
• Swelling in your mouth, gums, or tongue

• A badly cracked or broken tooth

• A cut or tear on your lips

If a tooth is slightly chipped and doesn’t hurt, you might not be dealing with a dental emergency. But please, feel free to contact Loveland Dental if you’re concerned. They will be happy to assess your situation and explain how to take care of your tooth until you can make it into the office.

A tooth that has been knocked loose or out is a serious dental emergency. If you don’t receive immediate dental care, there’s a good chance you’ll lose the tooth for good. To try and save the tooth, start by cleaning the injured tooth and the inside of your mouth. Rinse your mouth and tooth with lukewarm water. Do your best to avoid touching the tooth’s roots.

Hold the tooth by the crown (the smooth white top part) as you rinse it. If you can, hold the cleaned tooth by the crown and reinsert it into the empty socket. Close your mouth slowly. Hold the tooth in place with your fingers or gently bite down on it to help it stay in place until you can come in. Call the office right away. Or, have a family member or friend call to let our staff know you’re on your way.

If you are unable to place the tooth back into its socket, put your tooth in a small cup of milk to help preserve it until you get to the dental office. In the event of a dental emergency, call Loveland Dental Group for expert assistance.
